WE HAVE A REAL BED! I have been sleeping on a couch and a twin sized air mattress for a month! If you follow my personal Instagram account, @madalynparr, then you may have seen my pre-bed post. Before the big move, Jd and I decided we would just purchase a new mattress once we arrived in New York and FINALLY we got our queen-sized Casper! I realize that I haven't posted a word about the new apartment we are living in, but I promise that will come when it's fully furnished - or maybe I'll share the space next week pre-decor.
Let me take you through my experience with Casper, but first I want you to know that I ordered the mattress on Monday (7/20) and recieved it the next day (7/21). Okay, here we go:
Monday morning I woke up with the worst back pain and decided I couldn't take sleeping on an air mattress any longer. I was completely fed up. Jd found Casper online before we even moved to New York and we had discussed purchasing it but hadn't committed yet. I was so miserable at this point that I as soon as I got to work I hopped online and went straight to Casper's website. I decided to committ and placed my order. If you live in New York, they use a courier service to deliver the mattresses and prior to checkout you are asked to select the best day(s) and time(s) for delivery. I work 9am to 6pm and by the time I leave work most places are already closed, so I was shocked and thrilled to see that Casper had delivery times between 7pm - 8pm. When I left work, I called Casper's customer service team to see if they knew when my bed would delivered. Things come at work all the time and I typically stay later than 6pm, so I wanted to try to coordinate everything so that I could be home for the delivery. The sweetest girl answered the phone, I think her name was Kate, and she happily told me that they planned to deliver my bed the next day betweeen 7pm and 8pm, which was great news! She also told me that they would leave the mattress inside my building if I wasn't there, DOUBLE AWESOME right? I went home happy!
I got to work and things got busy FAST. I figured I would probably miss the delivery guy, which then got me thinking about how I would even carry the box upstairs if he did leave it. I couldn't take sleeping on an air mattress one more night!!! I needed the Casper in my bedroom THAT NIGHT! I immediately called Casper's customer service again and a different, super friendly girl (I believe her name was Isabel) answered the phone and said the box was about 80 pounds, which I figured wouldn't be a problem since I had just carted my AC window unit 20 blocks and hauled it up three (3) flights of stairs to my apartment (I'll save this story for another day). THEN, (you can tell I think a lot in my own head) I started questions my strength and googled how heavy my AC unit really was and found it's only about 30-50 pounds, which is considerably lighter than 80 pounds. At this point I knew there was no way I could carry that mattress up three (3) flights of stairs without creating more misery, but you have to do what you have to do right? I contacted Casper's customer service team again (third time in 24 hours), but this time I chatted online with Kate/Katie (I think she's the same girl I initially spoke to). I asked her a million questions about whether or not the courier would carry it upstairs and would he carry it upstairs even if I wasn't home, etc. She answered all of my questions in such a friendly manner and reassured me that they typically carry it straight to your door when you're home, but that they may do it even if I am not home. She couldn't promise, but said that she would make a note on the order for me.
6:48pm: I leave work and frantically hurry to the trains as fast as I can, knowing that I will most likely miss the courier anyways.
7:18pm: I exit the train, pretty sure that I have missed the courier and that the box is sitting downstairs waiting for me to miserably spend the next hour trying to get it up the stairs.
7:23pm: I get to the door and I don't see a Casper box so with a big smile on my face I hurry my stairs just to find that the courier is actually already up there at my door and had been ringing my doorbell!!! Things were finally looking up. He carried the box into my bedroom and from there I stared at it in awe before opening it up.
This is the best thing I have seen/witnessed since moving to New York. I never knew I could love a bed so much, thank you air mattress for leading me to the Casper.
In each box, you recieve a little pouch with the above items. The "sharp & steady" tool quickly became my best friend becuse I don't have any scissors and I needed something to help free the mattress.
I know the bedroom doesn't look glamorous, but this bed is really all it needs anyway. Casper is officially my first and only real peice of furniture in the apartment - the two side tables came with the place. I don't even have sheets for the bed yet to be honest, but I have two (2) blankets and a sheet, which work just fine for now. The mattress is foam and molds to your body. It's so comfortable and I have slept through each night, without back pain so far! The great thing about Casper is that they give you a 100 day trial, so if you hate it you can return it for a full refund, and they come and pick it up! My experience with the Casper team was splendid! They are super friendly people who actually want to help you! They made everything run smoothly for me. I didn't have to do a thing except order online. If you live outside of New York, you can still have your mattress delivered and within 5-7 business days I believe. I highly recommend you consider them if you are looking for a new mattress! You can't go wrong with Casper.
Above is my original air mattress, it doesn't look too bad, but that's just because I put sheets on it and made it look halfway decent before taking this picture. It was miserably uncomfortable.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this crazy, long rant about my new Casper. I'm on a train right now back to Richmond, Virginia for the weekend, but stay tuned for the rest of my crazy New York times!
